Rachel Mwangi had been a prominent church leader in her hometown, just 2 hours north of Mombasa. At the age of 45, some sparks from a cooking fire hit her eye and caused a lot of irritation that never went away. After 3 years, she finally sought help from a local eye clinic.
They were unable to help, however, and her church believed that she was being punished from God for her lack of healing.
Thanks to a Lighthouse Eye Camp, she was able to reach out to our staff, who identified the problem and brought her back to our main clinic for corrective surgery.
She is grateful for the chance to be whole again, through seeing and in her church community.
