As many of our readers will know, Lighthouse has been blessed to have a few corneal surgeons visit regularly over the years, acting as their own “pack mule” by transporting donor corneas in their carry-on baggage. As you can imagine, this can make for interesting situations when there is need for additional ice or the x-ray security attendant wants to know about all of those little bottles…! Well, thanks to the generosity and international vision of a couple of US Eye Banks (Georgia Eye Bank and UT Southwestern Transplant Center) the Lighthouse is now set to receive regular, quarterly shipment of donor corneas from these institutions. Dr Jimmy Brooks communicated the need and the Eye Banks responded! Dr Matende and Korir received the first shipment in October of this year, and patients are now enjoying the benefits of improved sight! Praise God for partners in sight!
