More than 26,000 patients are seen each year at the Lighthouse for Christ Eye Centre and in Mobile Eye Camps. In 2007, over 1,500 major eye surgeries were performed and nearly 2,500 pairs of glasses were dispensed. Most of the patients are the unreached or followers of traditional tribal religions. Many would never darken the door of a church but are willing to listen to a gospel presentation which includes the “Jesus” film and a personal witness. This all occur while patients wait for medical treatment along with family members.
The Lighthouse is a modern clinic and surgery center with most of the equipment found in an American clinic, including Yag and Argon lasers and Phaco units.
The Eye Centre is staffed by two full-time ophthalmologists, a clinic administrator and 30 technicians and staff members all of which are Kenyans.
Volunteer eye surgeons, nurses and ophthalmic techs from the United States and Europe serve throughout the year.
We moved into the 2 story new eye clinic and surgery center in February of 2004. It is in full operation seeing hundreds of people each day.
